A Man & his Dog
Monsieur Renault was an interesting man, very particular, always immaculately dressed and always deferred to Flange (his dog). In a surreal world it’s odd to come across an individual who is not purposely outrageous for effect (like many of the group) but genuinely odd in such a normal way.
He & Flange were accepted in the most elite establishments, no-one appeared to care that they were eating their dinner next to a dog, seated in the normal way for that restaurant & often getting preferential treatment above the other guests.
Renault & Flange were a common sight on St. Louis, politely greeting all in the locality, especially the artists whom he admired greatly and that feeling was reciprocated as he provided inspiration for many of Magritte’s paintings.
