The Bubble

Sitting outside the cafe on rue Bonaparte Mathieu became aware of a man walking his dog on the other side of the road. He’d been watching him for a few minutes, fascinated by the man’s obvious indecision – he would walk to the corner of the street then pause, then wander back the way he’d come. The thought occurred to Mathieu that the man’s constantly changing direction was caused by a phenomenon he was colliding with. Delarue had often pondered on the history of Paris – how sometimes he felt the streets were full of people’s discarded thoughts – maybe this was a fact and what he was witnessing was an individual stuck between two opposing thought bubbles playing the man like a ball in a game of tennis.
