To Pay the Bills

Visiting ‘splendeurs et miseres – Images de la prostitution exhibition at Musee D’orsay, which is full of great paintings – especially the Lautrecs – but watching the mass of visitors queing to see the early porn photography made me think of Delarue’s disappointment at his failure to make it as a writer.

It was clear that Mathieu would not be able to make a living out of his writing so he took up an offer from an tutor at his old university and became a supply teacher. After gaining a few years experience he had settled on providing private tuition which allowed him the time & freedom to once again explore his thoughts.
